Womack makes mistake but no disgrace!
Chris Womack of Velo Club Baracchi had a reasonable ride with 27:28 in the Plomesgate CC 10-mile time trial.
This event was on the sporting course from Sudbourne, passing Bentwaters and through Tunstall.
Racing conditions were ideal; dry, sunny with a slight wind.
Womack made things hard for himself by inadvertently taking the wrong exit on a roundabout, heading into a housing estate and taking about a minute to get back on route.
He put it down too a “senior moment” but these things are easy to do. Womack’s consolation was that even at this early stage of the season he is clearly fit enough to have achieved a “26” or even a “25” on a sporting course.
The winner was Mark Arnold of Team Pedal Revolution in 21:54.
John Thompson rode the Stevenage CTC 210km (131 miles) Audax from Fairlands Park in Stevenage. Places visited on his route to reach controls included Reed, near Royston, Thaxted at 36 miles, Lavenham at 66 miles, Thaxted, Finchingfield and Great Hormead.
He said, “Having a tail wind return was glorious. I really savoured it! I’ve been riding the event for a few years and for me it was a first.” His time was a little under 11.5 hours.
