Lucas He wins junior prize in King’s Lynn CC 25

Lucas He of Velo Club Baracchi won the top junior prize with 57:21 in King’s Lynn CC’s open 25-mile time trial on undulating single carriageway roads from Fincham towards Mundham.

His time was also good enough for sixth place overall and his dad Alex He won third prize on handicap with 1-07:22 despite having suffered cramp in the last 200 metres.

John Swanbury’s time was 1-07:07.  He and Alex rode through heavy rain for part of the ride and Lucas was lucky, missing it by starting late in the field. Top time by about a couple of minutes was by Matthew Senter of Team VeloVelocity – 53:40.

In Stowmarket & District CC’s open 10-mile time trial on the Wickham Market by-pass the following day Lucas He again excelled, with eleventh place in 21:52 and again winning the prize for fastest junior/juvenile. Chris Womack of VCB recorded 24:49 and Alex He achieved 25:25.

Denise Hurren of Sole Bay Cycle Sport was the fastest lady in both these open events, with a new course record of 23:44 in the 10.  Lloyd Chapman of Banks/Catford CC Equipe was quickest with 19:55 and a new tandem course record of 21:09 was set by the Velo Schills Interbike RT team of Gary Pamment and Barry McDonald.

Alex He rode a personal best by one minute and six seconds in the Godric CC 10-mile club time trial last week, achieving 24:23.

Lucas He was, however, the fastest VCB rider in the event with 22:42.  Paul Hayward challenged him but fell a little short with 22:50. The tandem pair, John Swanbury and Ali Banks, had their best ride this season with 22:43.

Fastest of all was VCB’s second claim rider Mark Richards, now riding for DAP CC, who achieved 20:54.  It was a fairly still evening after heavy rain.

On Thursday the wind was a feature in the Gt Yarmouth CC club 10 and attendance was low.  Richard Allen, the only VCB rider, was timed in at in 31:03, while Zac Coleman of Team Pedal Revolution won in 22:41, relegating Liam Gentry (now DAP CC) into second place with 22:53.

Sunday’s Holmes Cup inter-club 25 organised by Gt Yarmouth CC, cancelled because of a burst water main north of Lound, has been re-arranged for Sunday September 3.

John Thompson rode two 200km “DIY” audax rides, one on his “Norfolk Special” course from Lound to  Runham, Coltishall, Stiffkey, Briston, Wymondham, Hempnall, Thurltonand back.

The other was on his “Silly Suffolk” route, starting and finishing at Carlton Colville Community Centre and including Metfield, Thornham Magna, Worlingworth, Bawdsey, Orford, Dunwich and Wenhaston.

He said, “Although I’m not yet riding these events any faster, I think for that type of riding I’m getting fitter,” observing that he had been able to do two in a week.
