Womack’s good ride in the Gt Yarmouth CC 10-mile time trial
Chris Womack of Velo Club Baracchi rode well in the Gt Yarmouth CC open 25-mile time trial on Sunday to record a very competent time of 1-08:03.

Conditions were hard in the cool wind and most of the riders dressed accordingly. Womack was a little disappointed that he could not match the time he recorded in the same event last year but in truth he mastered the conditions well.
In addition to VCB riders taking the usual club run, others went to watch the GYCC event on the Somerleyton course and support Womack.
The fastest rider was Stuart Pryce of Strada Sport with 58:20, from Glenn Taylor of Shorter Rochford RT (59:21) and James Trenchard of Godric CC (59:32), which was a very good ride by Trenchard.
No others were under the hour. Liam Gentry had replaced his back wheel with a less aero one after a puncture, but he achieved 1-00:43 and with Pryce and Nick Esser (1-04:45) these three Strada Sport riders took the team prize.

Against veteran standard times Glenn Taylor’s time was +7:29 and Chris Nudds of CC Breckland achieved +7:06, with Scott Davidson of Team VeloVelocity.co.uk next with +5:30. Womack’s veteran plus was +4:17.

As they often do, Gt Yarmouth CC had included a handicap section, won by their rider Philip Denby, whose time of 1-07:10 was adjusted on handicap to 40:38. Second and third were Rob Thornton of VC Norwich Lee Hurren of GYCC.
John Thompson started in the Comrades CC “Up the ‘uts” 207km Audax but was suffering from a bit of a cold and decided to give up at 108km.
He said, “I’m always a bit frustrated when I pack, but the riding I did I enjoyed. The bit that I did went through Gt Dunmow and into a lot of very nice lanes in southEssexthat I hadn’t ridden before.”
He managed another ie the next day and visited the popular cyclists’ tea rooms at Stisted nearBraintreeby a different route from usual, “enjoying a pot of tea and a slice of banana cake in the company of some other cyclists.”
He returned toBraintreeby a slightly different route then through Black Notley and White Notley to then turn through some very nice lanes to Felsted, to retrace through Gt Dunmow to Takeley.
The Good Friday open 10-mile time trial organised by Gt Yarmouth CC on the A143 is the first event in which a good number of local riders is likely to take part.
