VCB cycling in the wind. Also Beccles Cycle for Life entry is open
Velo Club Baracchi riders were lucky with the weather on Sunday, as it was dry enough, though the wind was strong and gusting.
After a ride by the usual route to Halesworth, some of the riders doubled back to enjoy the tailwind, while others pressed on to the south.
John Thompson took part in Gt Yarmouth CC 50-mile sportive from Northgate Street there, to which he had ridden out.
He said, “As it’s classed as a sportive, not a reliability ride, there are no time finishes to aim for but I think I got round in just slightly over 3.5 hours, which in this morning’s conditions I was happy with.”
The route for the event was to Caister and then on the coast road to Lessingham, turning to follow a complicated lane route via East Ruston, Honing, Smallburgh, and Neatishead to Horning, then Potter Heigham, Smallburgh and Filby back to Caister and Yarmouth.
He retained fond memories of his roast dinner and treacle sponge enjoyed in the diner “beautifully situated opposite finish” before riding home via the cycle path to Hopton and coast road to Corton, making a total of just over 70 miles.
Advance entries for the Beccles Cycle for Life charity ride are already being received and all the details of the event and how to enter are on May 11 are on www.becclescycleforlife.org.
Distances are 7, 15, 25, 40 or 50 miles and the ride is in aid of East Anglian Air Ambulance and the charitable trust of the organisers, the Rotary Club of Beccles.
There are categories for individual riders and for families and teams. The individual riders have an option of entering on line via the website.
Last year £8,000 was raised for charity and a record number of around 490 riders took part.
