Partridge fastest VCB rider; Supple personal best in Godric 10
Nick Partridge of Velo Club Baracchi was the fastest rider in Godric CC’s 10-miile club time trial last week in 20:59.
Stuart Supple of VCB with less than a handful of time trials to his credit was the second-fastest VCB rider with a personal best 23:07, in third place behind Simon Scott of Anglia Velo (22:09).
Paul Hayward was fourth with 23:16. Other VCB times were Steve Dixon-Grant 24:24, Paul Reed 25:07, John Swanbury 26:09 and Francesca Dixon-Grant 28:40 (PB). Eighteen rode.
Partridge went on to set a course record of 22:15 on Gt Yarmouth CC’s revised club 10-mile course, which finishes on the outskirts of Blundeston instead of heading up Green Lane.
VCB junior Billy Girling of VCB achieved 25:15, a great time for this course. Johnathan Lincoln of the home club was their first-placed rider with 25:13. Sixteen rode.
Saturday’s VC Norwich 25-mile time trial was postponed because of a stuck level crossing barrier between the HQ at East Harling and the start so Paul Hayward and John Swanbury did not get their ride.
However, on Sunday Hayward rode in support of his 6-year-old daughter Ivy, a sponsored rider on the 8-mile route in the Beccles Cycle for Life charity ride organised by the Rotary Club of Beccles.
Swanbury rode the 41-mile distance and other VCB riders choosing 50 miles included Alex He, Keith Wink, Mike Rainton, Mike Wood, John Haigh and Ryan Coles.
The event attracted over 300 riders including a large group from Gt Yarmouth CC, some from Rock Estate and Godric CC as well as independent riders and many families.
John Thompson organised The Norfolk Special and The Broadsman audax rides from Lound village hall.
Twenty entered the 200km event. For three of them it was a family outing of grandad, son-in-law and grandson, 14-year old Jayden Simpson, who completed in 10:15 with apparent ease. It counted toward his Duke of Edinburgh award.
The ‘160’ had just 4 entries but 100% success.
Eleven started and completed his new 106km event, “The Broadsman.” The route included Sea Palling, Horning, Reedham Ferry control (riders retain ticket) and back to Lound.
