Dennington solos at 15 miles and the tandem pair go on age record quest
In CC Breckland’s open 15-mile time trial on the A11 from Attleborough, also billed as the district championship, Paul Dennington of VCB had a good ride and recorded 33:31.
The club’s tandem regulars, John Swanbury and Ali Banks, rode the less usual 15-mile distance for the first time in 33:13 and considered it a success despite being beaten by two other younger tandem teams, one from Charlotteville CC and the other from 3T-Racing,
The VCB team will apply for national and East Anglian age records to be recognised for this ride.
The quickest solo rider in the event was Matthew Smith of DRAG2ZERO in 28:27, with Matthew Senter of Team VeloVelocity second in 29:38, with Harley Matthews of Dap CC third in 30:04. Katja Rietdorf of Born to Bike was the fastest woman in 33:41.
Dennington won the Gt Yarmouth CC 10-mile club time trial at Lound last Thursday with 24:09, with Nick Esser of Dap CC second in 24:50 and VCB’s Richard Allen on 29:31. Twelve rode.
In the Anglia Velo open 10 on the A11 Dennington was particularly on form with 22:08, for 21st place in a quality field. Chris Womack also rode well in 23:53.
There were four times under 20 minutes – Matthew Senter of Team VeloVelocity was the winner with 19:05, one second outside Jason Bouttell’s course record. Anna Muir of Chelmer CC was the fastest woman in 22:37. Sixty-six entrants rode.
In Sunday’s Diss CC open 10 on their undulating A143 course from Billingford to the Needham roundabout turn Dennington again represented the club and recorded 22:44.
Paul Hayward achieved 23:05 and Chris Womack 25:51. Daniel Bloy of Team VeloVelocity won in 20:34 and the lady winner was Susan Triplow of Essex Roads CC in 24:34.
VC Baracchi’s Ringsfield Road Race, which fell victim to some temporary traffic lights on the course in mid-July has been resuscitated and rescheduled for September 2 on the same Ringsfield course.
New entries can be made on the British Cycling website and the closing date for these is 26th August (midnight).
John Thompson rode the “Suffolk Lanes Extravaganza ” 210km (131 miles) audax from Bildeston.
The route included Walsham Le Willows, Halesworth, Iken , Orford, Framlingham, Horham, Middlewood Green and Battisford before returning to Bildeston.
He said, “I got round in 12 hours 15 minutes, which I was happy about,” and explained the need for stops to take on refreshment and rehydration in the heat, including the village store at Fressingfield and an ice cream van at Orford.
