Gentry, Richards and other VCB riders go well
Mark Richards of Velo Club Baracchi had a fine ride in the CC Breckland 10-mile time trial on the A11 from Attleborough to Snetterton and back last Wednesday evening, recording 21:56.
George Kerridge of VCB achieved 22:53. Last year, Richards’ best ride was 21:29 and Kerridge’s was 22:41, so both of them are looking good at this stage of the season, with many opportunities to find a little more speed.
John Thompson of VCB was pleased with some improvement on recent times, to 27:31.
The top riders were Sean Taylor (RAF CA) 21:04, Andrew Leggett (Team VeloVelocity) 21:08, Matthew McClure (Wisbech Wheelers) 21:32, Andy Tyler (VC Cosmique) 21:36 and Angus Jardine (Ipswich BC) 21:47.
Sally Withey of VC Norwich won for the ladies with 24:15 and among the veteran prize-winners on age standard were old friends of VCB, John Dupen of Anglia Velo with +5:10 from his 22:28 time and Lowestoft rider Ian McCluskey (Diss CC) with +4:56 for fourth from 22:24.
John Swanbury and Ali Banks of VCB obtained a personal best on the tandem, 22:13, though it was not enough to prevent them from taking last place out of four teams. The top team comprised Mark Arnold of CC Desiragear and Glenn Taylor of Shorter Rochford, winning in 18:40.
In the Godric CC club 10 last Tuesday’s cool but mostly sunny evening the VCB riders were Liam Gentry, who took top honours with 22:20, Paul Dennington, second in 23:18 and Kerridge with 24:00. Rob Gooch of Anglia Velo was third with 23:19 and Lee Cook of Rock Estate fourth in 23:22. Other photos from the Godric 10 are here Godric CC club time trial, May 19 2015 | Flickr – Photo Sharing!
The East District Cycling Association’s 10-mile championship took place on Saturday on a nearly triangular single carriageway A-roads course based at Tottenhill, to the south of King’s Lynn.
Richards had another good ride with 22:51, Kerridge achieved 23:48 and Swanbury’s time was 25:52. Daniel Bloy of Team VeloVelocity not only acted as organiser but also won the championship in 21:02.
The lady champion was Anna Muir of Colchester Rovers CC with 24:31, run closest by Francesca Rust of Team VeloVelocity (25:06). Chris Nudds of CC Breckland was the top veteran with +4:53 from his 23:30 ride at age 66.
Thompson rode the Maldon and District CC 50 on a sporting course of 2.66 laps of an 18-mile circuit based around Steeple and Bradwell-on-Sea, Essex. It was a sporting course, including a 12% hill that has to be climbed three times. The wind was gradually getting up during the event and Thompson was happy with his time of 2-34:03, as it was quicker than last year in the annual event.
Matthew Smith of Team VeloVelocity won in 1-48:50.
Thompson achieved 29:12 in Sunday’s Stowmarket and District CC 10 on the A14 course, turning at Woolpit. It was a hard return against the wind. David McGaw (Cambridge CC) won in 20:32
