Hayward races MTB at Henham
As an exception to the general rule that most Velo Club Baracchi riders concentrate on road riding, Paul Hayward rode with reasonable success in the mountain biking at Henham.
Hayward tackled round 3 of the “Mud Sweat & Gears” event a day after his quick ride in the Godric CC time trial in which he had achieved a course-best, so he was not totally fresh.
The race was over four laps of a 5km course and Hayward had to start at the back as he had accumulated no points already from earlier rounds like the other riders.
It was a narrow and technical course and it was hard to pass other riders in the field of 80 to move up the order, but Hayward managed to do so
On the last lap he was within reach of the top ten riders but lost a few places, probably due to fatigue from the day before, but was very happy to finish 17th.
