Hayward rides well in NABC 10
Paul Hayward of Velo Club Baracchi rode well in the Norwich ABC 10-mile open time trial, to record 22:21.
Chris Womack made a comeback from injury to his ribs and toe that he recently sustained in a tripping accident and managed the good time of 24:50.
The event was on the A143 road from the Wortwell end and times are never quite as quick as on dual carriageways.
Nevertheless the winner, Matthew Senter of Team VeloVelocity notched up 20:26 from his team-mate Daniel Bloy (20:41) and jjunior rider Lyster Romero of Wigmore CC (20:55).
Denise Hurren of Sole Bay Cycle Sport won the ladies’ top place in 24:10 and the veteran win went to Robert Watson of team Bottrill/HSS Hire. His 21:28 time was a “plus” of 5:46 (faster than his age-related veteran standard time)
John Swanbury rode in the last of four evening 10-mile time trials organised by the VTTA East Anglian group on the A14 between Six Mile Bottom and Four Went Ways. For once the breeze was light but it headed riders on the first leg. He recorded 24:30 for +4:32.
The best veteran performance against standard was by 72-year-old Chris Roberts of Team PedalRevolution.co.uk whose 22:21 time earned him +7:05. There were a few senior riders and the quickest rider in the event was one of these, 31-year-old Matthew Smith of Team Bottrill with 18:44. Fastest veteran was his team-mate Peter Lawrence with 19:25 at age 45.
In the Gt Yarmouth CC club time trial at Lound Liam Gentry seemed to be riding on behalf of Rock Estate and won in 22:16. Nick Esser was second for VCB with 23:53 and Paul Dennington of VCB was fourth in 24:38. Twenty-two rode.
The Tuesday Diss club 25 from Bressingham was cancelled because of rain, the same fate as befell the CC Breckland open 25, though that has been rearranged for August 26 and includes some VCB entries.
John Thompson rode what he called a DIY audax on his “Silly Suffolk” event 200km route, legitimately making up for events he had to miss through illness or otherwise did not complete.
He said that for a performance to be accepted, “You submit route details to the DIY secretary and provide evidence – in this case a GPS track – after doing it.”
He rode from Carlton Colville Community Centre to Metfield, Thornham Magna, Framlingham, Bawdsey, Orford, Dunwich,Wenhaston and back to the start.
Thompson finished in 11 hours 51 minutes, inside his target. Last year he a was the fourth counter to getting Suffolk CTC section to third place in the CTC section audax competition and he hopes to be of similar help again.
