Kind weather for cycling, club runs and Wrinklies
Kind weather conditions (except for the fog) have enabled Velo Club Baracchi riders to get out on club runs and training.
After some early fog on Sunday, riders on Sunday’s club run enjoyed a good ride. Taking part were George Kerridge, Nick Hammond, Keith Wink, Kate Churchill, Shaun Davey, Lucas He, Paul Dennington and Karl Brady.
The Sunday club run meeting place is the Cotmer Road roundabout at 8.30am and other riders are welcome to join in.
Another group set off earlier for a longer and faster ride and included Liam Gentry and Mark Richards.
Quite a number of the club’s riders also take part in Tuesday and Friday rides with the Wrinklies, (an informal group) which are usually about 40 to 45 miles into Suffolk and sometimes South Norfolk as well. They always include the opportunity to stop at the Posh Pigs café in Ellough on the return.
John Thompson went to the Gt Yarmouth CC hill climb at Woods End and helped as a “pusher-off” at the start, to get the riders on their way.
He rode to Loddon direct via Beccles and stopped at Rosie Lee’s tea room (which will feature in his audax route this Sunday) and then rode via Claxton, Rockland St Mary and Bramerton to Woods End.
After joining the Yarmouth club for lunch at The New Inn at Rockland St Mary he rode home with them back to Loddon and then via Thurlton and Haddiscoe. He commented, “Some of the Yarmouth riders stopped off at The Bell at St Olaves, but I resisted it!”
This Sunday the “Waveney Wander” 100km audax cycling event organised by Thompson starts from Carlton Colville with controls at Loddon, plus two information controls.
VC Baracchi’s annual meeting is on Monday November 9 at the Carlton PH, London Road South, Pakefield, followed on November 14 by the annual prize presentation evening at the same venue.
The club has about fifty current members and it is a good time to be considering renewing or joining next year. More club details are on www.vcbaracchi.co.uk
