Personal bests secured, as Dennington edges Summons and Matthews rides open 10
Velo Club Baracchi riders have been taking advantage of the summer weather to improve their times.
Paul Dennington and Steve Summons continued their duel in last week’s Godric CC club 10-mile time trial, both with personal bests.
This time it was Dennington who had the edge, with 25:01 to Summons’ 25:09, reversing the order achieved in their previous ride. Jenny Anderson continued her scamper back into good form with a time of 26:06.
The conditions for the Godric event at Earsham were good. Though there was a light side-wind it was warm.
John Swanbury and Ali Banks rode the tandem and achieved a season’s best 23:06, just nine seconds outside their personal best of last year.
The other VCB times were Mark Womack 27:37, Mike Wood 28:06 and Thompson 28:15.
The top three were Jim Burgess of Anglia Velo (21:21), Will Bamber of VC Norwich (22:26) and Shaun Aldous of Iceni Velo (23:18). There were 27 solo riders.
Gary Matthews was the fastest Velo Club Baracchi rider in the Stowmarket & District CC 10-mile open time trial on the A12 Wickham Market and Woodbridge by-passes.
Matthews was very pleased with his ride of 24:03, a personal best by 53 seconds and it is thought he may have won the V50 category with it.
Other VCB riders were Jenny Anderson (27:43) and John Thompson (30:26), who reported that it was very hard out against the wind on some of the long drags and on the slightly shorter return it was not a direct tail wind.
Former VCB members now with Strada Sport rode well. Thompson believes Liam Gentry may have won with his 22:06, Mark Westrup achieved 23:12 and Nick Esser 24:07.
Mark Newnham of VCB won the Gt Yarmouth CC 10-mile time trial at Somerleyton in 24:33, with Steve Summons second in 25:58 and Mark Womack sixth in 28:16. Chris Womack (29:42) and Anthony Potts (31:58) made up the VCB numbers.
Newnham’s ride was very strong, as the course is far from easy and fast times are hard to achieve.
