VCB club run popular, while Banks and Swanbury attend VTTA EA lunch
The Velo Club Baracchi 8.30am club run on Sunday from the Cotmer Road roundabout attracted a promising number of riders for the first time in a while.
It included one new club member and the club’s committee hopes to be able to build up the membership over the winter season and into the Spring, especially through an association with Tandem-Steve’s Cycles that was recently announced.
Tandem Steve and his wife both took part in the ride, which looped around Halesworth and Homersfield before returning to Lowestoft.
Prospective new members may easily contact the club through through Tandem-Steve’s High Street shop.
Velo Club Baracchi rider John Thompson organised a successful audax called the “Waveney Wander” 104km (65-mile) audax ride.
The route from Carlton Colville Community Centre went to Earsham Street (Wingfield), Loddon (Rosie Lee tea room), Heckingham and back to Carlton Colville.
From an entry of 40, 36 started and were all successful.
Kate Churchill of VCB was in the fastest group of five, that included three Gt Yarmouth CC riders, Trevor Woodham, Anthony Field, Kerstan Langer and they finished in four hours and nine minutes.
Thompson said riders reported that despite the cool easterly wind, it was not a bad day, sunny in the morning and much of the afternoon, with just one short shower.
He observed that judging by many of the fast times for a 65-mile ride including a compulsory cafe stop the headwind after the first info control at Earsham Street was unlikely to have been very troublesome.
John Swanbury and Ali Banks attended the VTTA East Anglian Group lunch and prizegiving at Exning, which they enjoyed and where they received certificates for the East Anglian and national age records they set on the tandem this year, as well as medals for three of the club’s veteran riders
